A recent donation to the ICAMus Archive and Special Collections: Music scores and recordings by American composer Jerome Margolis.
American composer, Jerome Margolis has donated numerous music scores and recordings of his works to the ICAMus Archive and Special Collections. Dr. Margolis is the composer of more than 200 works in almost every medium including orchestra, chamber ensemble, electronic, mixed media, piano, ballet, jazz and music-theater. His recent symphonic works have been performed by The Roanoke Symphony.
Gratefully received from the composer, the items of the Margolis Collection are on display at The ICAMus Studio; they are accessible for study and research.

JEROME N. MARGOLIS - BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Jerome N. Margolis was born in Philadelphia in 1941 and holds a Ph.D. in Music. He is a member of ASCAP.
Margolis studied piano at The Settlement Music School as child and won a scholarship at seventeen to The Philadelphia Conservatory of Music (now The University of The Arts) where he majored in composition with Vincent Persichetti and piano with Dorothea Persichetti.
He later served as a composition teacher at The Settlement School and was then appointed Music Director of Performing Arts at Bennett College (1966-1970) and Music Director of Project Upward Bound for Dutchess County, NY.
Relocating to Los Angeles in 1970 with his wife Ann and two children Margolis founded and directed the Music Department of Harvard School and, in 1992, was appointed Chairman of Performing Arts when the school became Harvard-Westlake. He retired in 2006.
Margolis was active in the LA “music-scene” during that entire time and moved to Boones Mill, VA with Ann to a new home in The Blue Ridge.
His more than 200 compositions include works in almost every medium including orchestra, chamber ensemble, electronic, mixed media, piano, ballet, jazz and music-theater. His recent symphonic works have been performed by The Roanoke Symphony.

Dr. Margolis has also composed incidental music for plays, electronic works, film music, songs in a more popular genre, jazz pieces and miscellaneous works; he is also a writer of non-fiction, essays, textbooks, poery, prose and fiction.
