Discovering the Music of Thomas Coates.
Thomas Coates (1803/13-1895) was an American composer of band music in the 19th century. Prominent in the 1800s, Coates is little-known today. He produced works for wind band, piano, orchestra, and voice. These CDs are an important contribution to make the music of the American Civil War and the music for post-war America better known and appreciated in modern times.
