ICAMus remembers American-music scholar Charles Hamm (1925 - 16 October 2011).
An expert on American Song and mentor in American music, Dr. Hamm authored major works on the history of music in the US ("Music in the New World", 1983) as well as remarkably accurate editions of Broadway Songs ("Irving Berlin Early Songs, 1907-1914", 3 vols.,1994).
On the occasion of his passing, the Center acknowledges its debt to his teaching, and dedicates to his memory its own commitment to research and education on many aspects of American music, including the historic songs that comprise our current Foster program.
