ICAMus Publication 2011
Aloma Bardi discovered a recently acquired collection of Puccini holograph manuscripts at the Library of Congress Music Division. Puccini scholar Barbara Boganini has transcribed and annotated the documents, and has provided an Introductory Note. After Barbara Boganini’s 2010 research on Giacomo Puccini’s American sources and influence to honor the centenary of the composer’s “American opera”, ICAMus studies new important documents on the creation and reception of La Fanciulla del West. This publication is part of an extensive ICAMus project that Barbara Boganini is carrying out on Giacomo Puccini and the United States.
ICAMus gratefully acknowledges The Library of Congress, Denise Gallo, Head of Acquisition and Processing Section; The Library of Congress Music Division; the Division’s Chief Susan Vita; the Library’s music specialists, in particular Raymond A. White, Kate Rivers and Kevin LaVine, for their assistance and for granting access to the manuscripts.
