ICAMus gratefully acknowledges and showcases a new meaningful gift to the Center's Collections: The American Civil War “Sound World” in Douglas Hedwig’s CDs of Brass Band Music performed on period instruments. Dr. Hedwig is an American composer, conductor, trumpeter, and scholar.

This new CD features works by composers who emigrated to the Americas to escape Nazi deportation: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Renzo Massarani and Vittorio Rieti; it also includes works by Leone Sinigaglia. ICAMus and Aloma Bardi have collaborated to this project with ongoing research on this rare repertoire and its rediscovery.
A concert of soprano Caroline Helton and pianist Kathryn Goodson on January 29, 2017, in honor of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, featuring art songs of Italian Jewish Composers, Leone Sinigaglia, Vittorio Rieti, Renzo Massarani and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. ICAMus has contributed to this project with research in American archives on forgotten and unpublished works by Italian American composers.
Barbara Boganini, who has served as Board Member for ICAMus since 2011, shares her experience and success story with the Center in a video which celebrates a new year of initiatives--the 16th since The International Center for American Music was established in January 2002!
A new ICAMus spring concert program of rare works from Pre-Civil War American Music, 1800-1858, takes place in the beautiful Villa Bardini of Florence, Italy, on April 4, 2017. Works by Edward Riley (1769-1829), Benjamin Carr (1768-1831; in America from 1793), Anthony Philip Heinrich (1781-1861), Stephen Collins Foster (1826-1864). Myung San Ko, soprano; Kyle Sullivan (baritone); Viola Shaula Valerio (flute); Anna Toccafondi (solo piano, piano accompaniment, ensemble direction); a project by Aloma Bardi. This is the first program carried out by ICAMus within the recently-established Affiliation Agreement with the Music Conservatory of Florence.
An important recent addition to the ICAMus Archive: rare scores of internationally renowned composers, notably Florence-born American composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968), and a collector’s item related to Dutch-born American composer Richard Hageman (1881-1966) and his only opera Caponsacchi, completed in the early 1930s and produced by the Metropolitan Opera in 1937. The items have been donated to ICAMus by award-winning exhibition curator, archivist, and lecturer, Bill Doggett. The Center established a special partnership with Bill Doggett Productions in 2015.
