SOPRANO NADINE BENJAMIN, STRUCK BY SEVERE ILLNESS, IS UNABLE TO PERFORM IN OUR CONCERT. WE WELCOME SOPRANOS LJUBA BERGAMELLI AND LORNA WINDSOR WHO SING THE PROGRAM, ACCOMPANIED AT THE PIANO BY DR. NICOLE PANIZZA. THANK YOU.

Emergence Music—soprano Nadine Benjamin and pianist Nicole Panizza—perform in the ICAMus project, American Art Song: Poets and Composers from the United States, directed by Aloma Bardi and Nicole Panizza (who both offer a scholarly presentation, in Italian, prior to the recital). A collaboration of ICAMus with Lyceum Club Internazionale Firenze. After Aloma Bardi’s inaugural online lecture of May 17, 2021, the opening in-person event (the two presentations and the concert, with a special reflection by Nadine Benjamin) takes place in Florence, Lyceum Club Internazionale, on Monday, May 16, 2022.

Testo poetico di James Agee (1909-1955)

Versione per voce e pianoforte del compositore, pubblicata da Schirmer nel 1949. Barber compose inizialmente Knoxville per mezzosoprano e orchestra nel 1947, quindi lavorò alla versione per soprano e orchestra da camera e ne realizzò infine un song per voce e pianoforte.

The poetry of Emily Dickinson has inspired many American composers. The ICAMus project, AMERICAN ART SONG: POETS AND COMPOSERS FROM THE UNITED STATES, includes musical settings of her poems and letters. This program features numerous rarities and emphasizes the prominence of American women poets and composers.
